How to play wari
Press «Learn» for the rules shown on the board, move by move.
The rules
The board.
Two rows of six bowls, one row for each player, and an extra bowl at each end for the pieces you capture. Every one of the twelve bowls starts with four pieces, forty-eight in all.
Sowing.
On your turn, take all the pieces from one bowl on your side and drop them one by one into the bowls that follow, against the sun: anticlockwise, to the right as seen from your side.
A long sowing.
If you have enough pieces to go all the way round, skip the bowl you emptied. It stays empty until the move is over.
Capturing.
If your last piece lands in a bowl on your opponent's side and brings it to two or three, you capture those pieces and put them in your extra bowl. Then look at the bowl just before it: if it is also on your opponent's side and holds two or three, capture that too, and go on backwards until you reach a bowl that does not.
Never take everything.
If a move would capture every piece on your opponent's side, it captures nothing and the pieces stay where they are.
Feeding.
If your opponent's side is empty, you must make a move that gives them pieces, if you can.
Winning.
The first to capture 25 of the 48 pieces wins. At 24 each the game is a draw.
The end of the pieces.
If there is no legal move, or the game goes round in circles, each player takes the pieces left on their own side, and the totals decide.
In this version
The game counts as going round in circles when the same position comes back a third time, or after a hundred moves without a capture.
